Atlanta Public Schools (APS) is working toward our Return + Learn Phase II reopening plan, and we want to ensure that you are fully informed about flexible working arrangements.
Since closing in March 2020 at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the District has offered employees the ability to telework, using District technology to perform APS duties from an off-site location. Since the beginning of the school year on August 3, 2020, all employees are either:
- Working in person daily due to the nature of their essential job duties (like custodians, bus drivers, facilities staff), or
- Working remotely most of the time with the option to come to the work site as needed, or
- Working remotely all the time with a telework arrangement approved by Human Resources (HR).
As part of the District’s proposed reopening plan, Return + Learn, school-based staff may be required to report to work four days per week starting Jan. 19, and central office staff may be required to return to work on staggered schedules starting Jan. 11. All employees who sought a telework arrangement had an opportunity to apply or re-submit a telework arrangement request between December 4, 2020 and January 4, 2021. NOTE: Employees who'd previously submitted a telework arrangement request prior to Dec. 4, 2020, were required to re-submit.

Employees may terminate their participation in the COVID-19 telework arrangement at any time. Employees are subject to all APS policies, regulations, and procedures while teleworking. A telework arrangement may be revoked or modified at any time by Human Resources. Telework arrangements may receive additional consideration based on the needs of the District.
