Dear CSKYWLA Family,

What a great and extremely busy start of 2012! Thank you so much for your involvement and support. Within the past few weeks, our girls have been busy learning in and outside of the classroom, participating in extra-curricular activities, as well as being involved in interactive Kingian Nonviolence training sessions. In the next several weeks, you will notice that we will begin to pick up speed and really involve ourselves in various academic and social undertakings.

By now, I sincerely hope that you received a copy of your child’s first semester report card, celebrated the successes, and questioned the subject areas that need improvement this semester. If you haven’t already participated in a conversation with your daughter’s teachers this semester, I hope that you will make your way to our campus as soon as possible. For your convenience, we’ve implemented a No Appointment Necessary parent conference opportunity, which occurs every 1st and 3rd Tuesdays from 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm. Teachers will be available in their respective classrooms ready to converse with you regarding your daughter’s academic and behavior progress.

As you are aware, in April, our girls will be required to demonstrate mastery of grade level and subject area curriculum standards through state standardized tests. Our girls will be assessed in five areas: mathematics, science, social studies, English language arts, and reading. While we will continuously do all that we can to prepare our girls to meet and/or exceed expectations on the assessments, we need your assistance in stressing the importance of these required standardized tests. Please closely monitor your child’s attendance at school, the amount of homework that she is involved in after school each day, as well as her participation in support programs if she needs additional assistance in a particular subject area.  Outside of the regular school hours, we offer two additional opportunities for help in mathematics and English language arts – Thursdays, from 4:00 pm – 5:15 pm and Saturdays, from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm.

Finally, I would like to encourage your child to display positive student behavior at school, on the school bus, and at all school sponsored activities. Our students are expected to be poised, polished, and professional at all times. While some of our students far too often imitate unacceptable behavior, I am requesting your full and active support in reinforcing our expectation of excellence.  With your help, I am confident that we will ensure a safe and nurturing learning environment for each Lady Eagle.

Again, thank you for your continued support. There is evidence that when we work together to support learning, everyone benefits. As always, I am willing to speak with you regarding our positive partnership. I can be reached at dsimon@atlantapublicschools.us or 404-802-4962.

Sincerely,

 Dione Simon, Ed.D.
