  • APS Statement Regarding Personnel Changes

Atlanta Public Schools is appreciative of the leadership demonstrated by all of our principals, particularly those who have served the district for many years.  Like all school districts, APS conducts an annual assessment of where we are as a system, as well as a review of any revisions to state law. Necessary changes are made to ensure the district remains in compliance and that all of our students are prepared for the next level and long-term success. This process includes an intense and methodical performance review of all of our schools and their leadership teams. For the full statement, please click here.

  • Atlanta Public Schools parents are encouraged to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey administered by the Georgia Department of Education. Data from the Georgia Parent Survey will be used along with the Georgia Student Health Survey and the Georgia School Personnel Survey to calculate the School Climate Star Rating within the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI).

The Georgia Parent Survey has 20 questions and should take no more than 5-10 minutes to complete it. Data results from the Georgia Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online.

Welcome to a new school year! Our new theme for John F. Kennedy Middle School is,

“Staying the Course, Going Deeper, Reaching Higher”.

This year, we will build on the success we achieved together during the 2012-13 school year.  While we celebrate these facts from our Spring CRCT administration of students who met or exceeded the standards:

ELA 88%, Reading 93%, Mathematics 83%, Science 65%, and Social Studies 64%, our job is not over until we have 100% of our students exceeding expectations. Hence we recognize the need to ensure we are fully prepared on a daily basis to provide our students with rich and robust learning experiences that prepare them for success in college and beyond.

We will imbed the 7-Habits of Highly Effective Teens, by Steven Covey into our daily rituals and routines, in and out of the classroom, to support our students academically and behaviorally. We will work collaboratively to build on and enhance student learning by:
  • Committing to communication techniques in a variety of situations to proactively inform, network, and collaborate with parents/guardians on a regular basis.
  • Committing to instructional excellence and creating a positive learning environment.
  • Committing to “sharpening our saw” by implementing high yield strategies and fully engaging in Professional Learning Communities (PLC).
  • Committing to partnering with parents, business partners and the community.

I look forward to the year that awaits us. I believe that, if we work together, this will be the best year ever.
