Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS)

GA MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) is a system designed to help all children succeed by providing different levels of support based on student needs (academics, behavior and well-being)
Here at West Manor:
- The MTSS Specialist, Teachers, and Instructional Coaches frequently review student data such as MAP, classwork and classroom assessments to determine possible need for additional, tiered support.
- If it is determined that additional support is needed, we discuss after-school tutorial, tiered support during small group instruction time, support through wrap around providers for therapy, speech interventions, etc.
- Progress monitoring occurs weekly for some students and bi-weekly for others. After collecting data, we decide if the student can be moved back to tier 1 (regular classroom instruction), if the current interventions should continue, or if time and frequency should increase.
- If progress is limited, we may consider referral for a psychological evaluation with parents’ consent.
Questions to consider…
Is my student consistently performing below the 20th percentile on MAP assessments and failing core content classes?
Has my scholar received a flag on the Dyslexia screener, Amira, along with failing scores? This screener is only for students in grades K-3 except for parent opt out.
Does it appear that my scholar has issues processing information/content taught?
Is my scholar responding to the classroom behavior system?
Has your scholar recently experienced a traumatic life event?
Reminders:
Remain in communication with your child’s teacher.
Support your scholar(s) in completing their homework.
Consider the after-school tutorial program.
Review progress reports, MAP/Dyslexia reports (K-3) and report cards.
