Happy October!  Parents and Students, I want to say THANK YOU to everyone that participated in our Town Hall this past week.  At the time of the Town Hall, I didn't know that we would be changing gears.  As most of you are now aware, APS WILL NOT be moving into Phase II of the Return to Learn Plan.  Our students will continue in a Virtual Model until at least January 2021.  Be sure to watch the video at the end of this newsletter for more specific information.

Although we won't be moving back to face to face instruction, Kimberly will continue planning for the day that we do return.  You can view our Return to Learning - Phase II plan document on our school website:  https://www.atlantapublicschools.us/Page/64812

The teachers and staff at Kimberly have been working very hard to make this the BEST YEAR YET for your youngsters.  We believe that 'Virtually, We Can Do Anything!'

Key Updates:
  • Nutrition - With APS remaining in the virtual setting, our Nutrition program will provide seven-day weekly meal kits (seven breakfast meals and seven lunch meals) with distribution occurring each Monday, beginning October 26, currently from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. from one of the 14 curbside pick-up locations or designated school bus routes listed at www.atlantapublicschools.us/Page/63224
  • Athletics - Our high school football, volleyball, softball, and cross country teams will continue to compete, following the appropriate health and safety protocols we’ve put in place. No fans are allowed in the stands. In addition, we expect our winter sports athletes to begin conditioning soon, following all health and safety protocols. We will continue to monitor our winter sports activities and GHSA guidelines relative to conditioning.
  • Synchronous Wednesdays - As a result of our decision to remain virtual for the rest of this semester, Wednesdays will go back to being synchronous Wednesdays. We were implementing asynchronous Wednesdays only as part of our Phase II face-to-face plan.
  • Use of District Facilities - All of our facilities are open to non-APS employees by appointment only. Facilities are unavailable for rental and outside use.

Intent to Return Survey Results
Although we will not be returning to face to face instruction at this time, I want to THANK all of the families that completed the Intent to Return Surveys.  Below are the results for our school, should we have returned to face to face learning:

I do want to acknowledge that we didn't have ALL of our parents complete the survey.  ONLY 198 student responses were received out of the 342 students enrolled at Kimberly.  This means that only 57.8% of our families responded to the survey.  Although, that isn't the worst in the district, it does identify that 42.2% of our families were not engaged in the process and could have potentially wanted a different option than what was recorded.  Families that didn't respond to the Declaration of Intent Form were, by default, remained in our Virtual Site Based setting.

If you know someone that didn't get the survey, please have them contact the school so that their contact (email) information can be updated.  This will also ensure that they receive this weekly newsletter.

Bully Prevention Month - October

October is Bullying Prevention Month and Kimberly is a designated No Place for Hate (NPFH) School.  As part of this program, the entire school body will take the NPFH Resolution of Respect.  This is a pledge promoting respect, acceptance, and safety.

Temperature Checks Daily at Home (FLUency)

Kimberly Elementary School is partnering with KINSA Fluency School Health Program to get FREE digital thermometers for all of our families.  When we return to F2F learning, all students will have to be screened for COVID/FLU symptoms, and one of the characteristics is a fever.  This resource will help parents make the best decision for their child prior to sending them to school each day.
  1. Text FLUency to 900900.  Open the link to download the free KINSA app
  2. Finish signing up with your school in the KINSA app

Parents of students in grades K–12 have access to class schedules, attendance records and grades through the Parent Portal, an easy-to-use, secure communications tool for the district. Additionally, the Parent Portal enables parents to verify household information, including email, home address and telephone numbers.

What you'll need before registering:
  • Your child's Student Number (It can be found on your student's report card or transcript.)
  • The last four digits of your child's Social Security Number (SSN) or the SSN-like number* assigned to your child.
*If you did not provide your child's SSN at enrollment/registration, they were assigned an SSN-like number. To receive the last four digits of that number, you will need to contact your child's school.
