Atlanta Public Schools is piloting a Spring Break Academy as a part of a targeted intervention strategy under the APS turnaround plan. APS Spring Break Academy is for select students in grades 3‐5th at Kimberly Elementary school and in the Douglass and Carver clusters during the week of April 4‐8, 2016. Spring Break Academy targets 240 students performing in the lowest quartile across the four core competencies: English/Language Arts, Social Studies, Science and Mathematics. Students in the Carver Cluster will attend Spring Break Academy at Grove Park elementary school’s site. Students at Kimberly Elementary and in the Carver Cluster will attend Spring Break Academy at Perkerson Elementary. On the last day of Spring Break Academy, Friday, April 8, there will be a fun culminating activity at the Metropolitan Fun Center including bowling, roller skating and games for students who meet the attendance requirements. This is a great opportunity for select students to get additional instruction and enrichment at no cost to APS families. APS Teachers whose students have the top 25% in Student Growth Potential scores will provide instruction during Spring Break. Students will engage in core instruction in the morning and SEL enhanced enrichment in fine arts, technology, physical education and music in the afternoons. Registration will be held January 11 through February 1 on a first come first served bases. A rolling
registration will target students in the bottom 25% and continue until all spaces are filled.
