Mr. Edward Carr
I was born in upstate New York, but my father’s job took us to Alabama and then to Atlanta, where I graduated from high school. I went on to live in Melbourne, Australia for 2 years and Kaohsiung, Taiwan for 20. I love to travel and have visited some amazing places around the world. I was even fortunate to study abroad in Senegal and Brazil.
I got my bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood and Special Education at Mercer University. I earned a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Mercer and a specialist’s degree in Teaching and Learning from Argosy. I have endorsements in Science, Math, ESOL, and Gifted. I am currently working on a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction at Valdosta State.
I have been teaching in Georgia public schools for 15 years. Before that, I was an English as a foreign language teacher in Taiwan. When I came back to the U.S., I taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades in Lithia Springs, Georgia, where I was lucky enough to have looped with many of my classes. I then went on to become a 4th grade teacher at W. T. Jackson Elementary, then I transferred to SPARK in 2021. I’m beyond excited to be joining the Virginia-Highland Elementary School family!
And finally, from my time living and working in Taiwan, I speak, read, and write fluent Mandarin as well as Taiwanese and a little Japanese. I really love language and languages. I’ve even picked up a little Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Italian from studies and travels. 真的!
