VHE's Playground is Everybody's Playground is an inclusive playground design that appeals to every body that attends Virginia-Highland Elementary. As Atlanta Public School’s (APS) first-of-its-kind elementary school playground, children so children with disabilities will play alongside their peers on a variety of equipment pieces that are accessible and fun for all. 

A special project of the Virginia-Highland Elementary PTO, the vision for this playground goes beyond inclusive recesses. With dual playground sites - a main playground and Pre-K playground - it is the hope that Everybody’s Playground will become a vibrant neighborhood meet up spot on weekends and holidays, as well as a venue for inclusive APS programs and events.

MAY 2024 Updates

Playground Creations will begin the disassembly and relocation of our current play structure on Thursday, May 16th.  The total move will take approximately 7 days to complete.  The play structure will be moved to the upper playground closest to Green Cove.  Atlanta Public Schools is covering the cost of this expense. 

Our Shade Structure & Swings are currently in the manufacturing phase.  We anticipate delivery of the shade structure and swings to occur in September of 2024 and the installation should take approximately 3 days upon receipt. The VHE PTO and money raised from the VHE Fun Run and other donations will cover this expense. 

VHE's Playground is Everybody's Playground is designed for EVERY child at Virginia-Highland Elementary School...

• Age: there is equipment specifically geared towards Kindergartners, 5th graders, and every age in between.
• Interests: the finished school yard will have climbing, ride-along, music, and sports equipment.
• School: the playground will serve VHE students during the school day, but will be open to the entire community on weekends and in the summer.
• Physical Ability: the playground is designed to be inclusive so that our handicapped students can enjoy the playground equipment alongside their peers.

• Main Playground Equipment: $525,000
• Installation, Freight, & Rubber Surfacing: $150,000
• Pre-K Playground (equipment, installation, freight, & rubber surfacing included): $175,000

• December 2023: Fundraising kick-off
• August 2024: Target date to complete fundraising for main playground
• September 2024: Swings & shade structure installation
• December 2024: Target date for main playground installation
• December 2024: Target date to complete fundraising for Pre-K playground
• June 2025: Target date for Pre-K playground installation
