FDHS Mesh Bag Policy

March 27, 2023

Dear Astro Parents & Caregivers,

Douglass High School continues to be committed to ensuring that our students have optimal learning experiences within a safe and secure environment. As a reminder, our school has a mandatory clear/mesh bag policy for all students.

The school has provided clear/mesh bags for students in need throughout the school year, however, we cannot fiscally continue to do so. We have diligently enforced this policy by temporarily confiscating noncompliant bags and allowing students to retrieve them at the conclusion of the day. Recently we have noted an increase of students who consistently fail to comply with the bag policy. We cannot continue with the practice of providing bag storage during the day.

The purpose of this notice is to inform that effective April 10, 2023, bags that do not meet compliance will be confiscated immediately and will not be released to students.

Noncompliant bags may be retrieved by parents only between the hours of 9:30-11:30 or by contacting the front office to schedule a time for pick up. Any bags remaining unclaimed by the conclusion of the school year will be discarded permanently.

Finally, please be reminded of our existing safety protocols and measures taken to increase the security at Douglass High School's campuses:

  • More stringent detection with our new EVOLV weapons screening system for students and approved guests to campus enter the building.
  • Students are not permitted on campus without their student ID badges being visible and on their person. Failure to comply can result in removal from the campus and further disciplinary action.
  • Students on the main campus have limited access to Astro Park during transition and during class unless supervised by adults.
  • Students are expected to attend all classes and are not permitted to leave campus without following the established procedures for early release.
  • The use of outside food deliveries services (Uber Eats, Door Dash, Grub Hub, etc.) increases the potential for access of unauthorized individuals and is strictly prohibited for students.

If you have any questions, or need additional support, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Sincerely,

Principal, Douglass High School
