Understanding the Georgia Milestones Test for Grades 6-8
Your child in middle school (grades 6, 7, or 8) will take a test called the Georgia Milestones (or GMAS). This test looks at how much they have learned in different subjects:
- Reading and Writing: Checks how well they read and write.
- Math: Checks their math skills.
- Science: Checks what they know about science.
- Social Studies: Checks what they know about history and other social studies topics.
This test is important because it:
- Shows how well your child is learning.
- Helps teachers see where students need extra help.
- Gives the school information about how well their students are doing overall.
It's one way to make sure all students in Georgia are learning what they need to know as they go through school.
