                                                                                       Principal, Ramon Garner

My name is Ramon Garner, and I am proud to be the new principal of John Lewis Invictus Academy (JLIA). I am an Atlanta native and a graduate of Atlanta Public Schools. After high school, I attended Albany State University where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Middle Grades Education. Later I continued my education by earning a Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration from Troy State University followed by an Educational Specialist in Educational Leadership from Central Michigan University.

My career in education began as a paraprofessional in the Newton County School District fifteen years ago. In 2005 I came to Atlanta Public Schools (APS) as a Math teacher at Ben Carson Middle School (formerly West Fulton Middle School). As a teacher, I was then selected for the inaugural BEST Academy. After working there for several years, I was promoted to Implementation Specialist and Instructional Coach at Forrest Hills Academy before becoming an Assistant Principal at Benjamin Banneker High School.  While working in APS, I have had the pleasure of serving in several capacities, including Teacher, Department Chair, Head Football Coach, Instructional Coach, Assistant Principal of Academics, and Assistant Principal of Discipline and Operations. In each position, I have prided myself in focusing on the needs of the students and consistently setting high expectations for all.

It is an honor to be named the principal of JLIA and a privilege to be a part of continuing the legacy of the late Congressman John Lewis. We must be as tenacious and passionate about education as Congressman Lewis was about civil rights. I believe in public education and will lead with integrity knowing the pivotal role I play in affecting the climate, reputation, and attitude of our school.  As an advocate for students, it is my belief that all stakeholders must work together to ensure academic excellence in teaching and learning. The children of JLIA deserve the absolute best! As the leader, I commit to my students, my staff, my parents, and my community to be a strong example of our core values and foster our PRIDEPerseverance  Respect  Integrity  Discipline Excellence.

As the 2020-21 school year gets underway, I look forward to meeting you soon.

Let’s Go Royal Lions! The PRIDE is here!

    Mr. Ramon Garner, Ed.S
