Interim Principal, Mrs. Donna Davis
It is an honor and pleasure to serve as Interim Principal at John Lewis Invictus Academy! I am an Atlanta native with 18 years of experience as an educator. I attended Georgia State University where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 2005 and Master of Arts degree in 2011. My educational experiences have afforded me the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of people in elementary and middle school settings, with the common goal of increasing student academic success and well-being.
In 2008, I came to Atlanta Public Schools as a Science teacher at Herman J. Russell Middle School (formerly Brown Middle School). I was offered the opportunity to serve as the Science Department Chairperson after several years of service. The following year, I transitioned to Kindezi Old Fourth Ward as a Math and Science teacher, Grade Level Chair, and Science Curriculum Specialist. As the winner of the Georgia Innovation in Teaching Award for my S.T.E.(A.)M. Truck Project, the 5th grade science achievement gap decreased due to a rigorous, experiential learning-based curriculum where scholars collaborated with experts in a mobile maker space to solve a real-world problem. At the conclusion of my eighth year in teaching, I was promoted to the 6th Grade Assistant Principal at Kindezi Old Fourth Ward. In 2017, I accepted a stretch opportunity to become one of the founding administrators of Kindezi Gideons Elementary School. At Kindezi Gideons, I led 4th & 5th Grades and served as the Lead Testing Coordinator. The team’s commitment to turnaround efforts at Kindezi Gideons led to an increase in academic achievement on the state’s standardized assessment.
Since returning to Atlanta Public Schools in 2018, I have worked in various capacities. I have had the pleasure of serving as an Instructional Coach, 7th Grade Assistant Principal, 8th Grade Assistant Principal, Special Education, Wrap Around Services, and Electives Assistant Principal, Lead Testing Coordinator, New Leader Mentor, and Title IX Administrator. I have thoroughly enjoyed working alongside dedicated and passionate instructional and support staff at John Lewis Invictus Academy.
As a lifelong learner, I intend to be an example to students and teachers that we should never stop learning. I am grateful to serve the John Lewis Invictus Academy Family and community. I am committed to establishing trust and relationships with all stakeholders. I genuinely believe that all scholars can learn, given a positive learning environment that nurtures curiosity and enhances student confidence. I will build the capacity of staff and sustain best practices. I will continuously model our core values of Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Discipline, and Excellence (P.R.I.D.E.) and advocate for academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support for John Lewis Invictus Academy students.
Additionally, my husband and I are the proud parents of two beautiful children. During my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, bowling, and shopping.
