    Course Description

The Spanish language course focuses on the development of communicative competence in the target language and understanding of the culture(s) of the people who speak the language.

    Multi-Cultural Background

Having been born and raised, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, an island of melting pot of different cultures, such as Spaniard, African and Native Indian (Taínos),
to a Spaniards-Dominican parents has allowed me the opportunity to be exposed to different types of people and to embrace everyone’s uniqueness an individuality.
Integration of Standards Into Curriculum and Instruction

I always keep in mind my students’ abilities, strengths, weaknesses and different learning styles when planning my lessons.
I plan the Spanish lesson, at the elementary level, based on the National Standards for Foreign Language Learning in the 21st Century, the State Foreign Language Standards (GPS for Modern Language) and the ACTFL Performance Guidelines for K-12 Learners.
    Instructional Philosophy

In our every growing global community it is more and more imperative that our children learn a second language. I believe that all students have the ability to learn Spanish. I will provide a positive learning environment that will nourish second language acquisition and meet the diverse learning styles of our students. I do believe that fluency in Spanish is acquired by practice inside and out of our classroom. Throughout the year students will be exposed to cultural experiences that will give insight to the Hispanic community. Being that a language is a social concept, students will work in pairs and groups. There will also be time for them to work individually.
