About 1/3 of all mortgages are not required to offer these forbearances. Those homeowners are at risk of foreclosure, and should definitely seek legal advice about their rights and options from Atlanta Legal Aid. Also, low and moderate income homeowners who are struggling financially and have equity are targets of home equity theft. These homeowners should get legal advice about their legal rights and options, before signing any documents that could result in the scammer stealing their home and their equity. The Home Defense Program is a specialty unit of Atlanta Legal Aid that advises and represents low and moderate income homeowners and homebuyers.
