Mr. Farod T. Brooks

Farod T. Brooks is a dedicated educator with an extensive background in teaching and educational leadership. Born and raised in New Jersey and currently residing in Atlanta, Georgia, Farod has committed his career to fostering academic excellence and leadership among students and educators alike.

Farod Brooks has dedicated his life to education, shaped by an unexpected journey that began during his time as an eleventh grader at Summit High School in New Jersey. An intelligent student who often found traditional instruction uninspiring, Farod’s disinterest was compounded by being one of the few African American students in his classes, leaving him feeling out of place. However, a pivotal moment in Ms. Aaron’s US History 2 class changed his trajectory forever. While studying about the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters and A. Philip Randolph, Farod’s curiosity was piqued upon discovering that Randolph was also, African American. Questioning why this significant detail was not highlighted, especially given the emphasis on other cultural histories in the curriculum, sparked his passion for history and a deeper understanding of the educational system's shortcomings in serving African American students. This experience ignited a lifelong commitment to making education relatable and engaging for all students, regardless of their background.

With a passion for history and science, Farod embarked on his academic journey at Rutgers University in Newark, NJ, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History in August 2005. His quest for further knowledge led him to Western Governors University in Salt Lake City, UT, where he achieved a Master of Arts in Teaching Social Sciences in December 2011. Driven by a desire to impact educational systems at a higher level, Farod pursued an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Columbus State University in Columbus, GA, completing his studies in August 2018. He is currently advancing his expertise by working towards a Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA, with an expected graduation in May 2025.

Farod holds numerous certifications, including the Georgia Leadership Certification and the Georgia Teaching Certification. He is well-versed in various subjects, certified in Educational Leadership, History, Geography, Political Science, Broadfield Science, and Earth/Space Science for grades 6-12. Additionally, he holds specialized certification endorsements in STEM, Gifted, AP Biology, and Environmental Science.

His professional career began in earnest at Clayton County Schools in Jonesboro, GA, where he served as a Social Studies teacher for grades 9-12. Here, he honed his skills in classroom management, lesson planning, and student assessment. Farod's dedication to education extended beyond the traditional classroom when he joined the Children’s Arts & Science Workshops, Inc. in New York, NY, as an Assistant Program Director and G.E.D. Instructor. In this role, he planned and implemented programs to develop youth leadership skills and ensured compliance with various regulations. Returning to Georgia, Farod became a Center Instructor at Sylvan Learning Center in Norcross, where he was certified in Sylvan’s learning programs and tutored students in multiple subjects. Concurrently, he served as a long-term and daily substitute teacher in Fulton County Public Schools and Gwinnett County Public Schools, demonstrating his versatility in teaching various subjects, including Math, History, and English.

In January 2013, Farod joined Atlanta Public Schools, where he has held multiple roles over the years. These positions include 6th-12th Grade Science Teacher at Hank Aaron New Beginnings Academy, South Atlanta High School, and D.T. Howard Middle School, Science Instructional Coach at R.J. Bunche Middle School, and in his current position of Assistant Principal at Frederick Douglass High School. In these roles, he has led staff meetings as department chair, implemented student behavior programs as grade level chair, coordinated and implemented STEM/STEAM initiatives, conducted case conferencing, and maintained open communication with principals and other stakeholders. His efforts have consistently focused on improving student learning and fostering an environment conducive to academic success.

Throughout his career, Farod T. Brooks has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to education, bringing passion, knowledge, and leadership to every role he undertakes. His broad range of experiences and continuous pursuit of academic advancement reflect his dedication to positively impacting students and the educational community.

Farod’s educational philosophy centers on creating an inclusive and engaging learning environment. He believes in the importance of involving teachers and staff in shaping school rules and expectations to cultivate leadership and foster a sense of value and responsibility. His approach includes offering leadership roles, professional development opportunities, and actively seeking input from the school community.

To enhance instruction and student engagement, Farod emphasizes the significance of student ownership, community and parental involvement, and maintaining high expectations for both students and staff. He advocates for clear routines and rules that foster accountability and ensure consistency across the school.

Building trust is a cornerstone of Farod’s leadership style. He prioritizes providing feedback, having candid conversations, and developing personal relationships to ensure that staff feel supported and valued. Staying abreast of the latest scholarly works and best practices, Farod models continuous learning and professional growth, positioning himself as a knowledgeable resource and a beacon of inspiration for his team.
