Welcome to H.J. Russell West End Academy. We are excited about your interest in participating in sports.

Physical Form
You must have an up-to-date physical to try out or participate in any sports in Atlanta Public Schools.  Physicals can be obtained by your personal doctor or at CVS. Each sport will hold tryouts for all students interested in participating.  Again, all students must have a physical exam and be academically eligible to be able to participate in athletics.

Fall sports - cheer, softball, and football tryouts are held in August.

Winter sports - basketball tryouts are held at the end of October.

Spring sports - soccer, track and field, baseball, and girl's football tryouts are held in February.

Any summer conditioning or training camps being held will be announced.

Football - Fall
6th graders are not allowed to participate in football until their 7th grade year. 7th and 8th graders are allowed to participate if they have a physical and are academically eligible. Tryouts will be announced.

Cheer - Fall
All grade levels are able to participate in cheer. Students must have a physical and be academically eligible. Tryouts will be announced.

Softball - Fall
Girls only-all grade levels are able to participate in softball. Students musi have a physical and be academically eligible. Tryouts will be announced.

Basketball - Winter
All grade levels are able to participate in basketball. Students must have a physical and be academically eligible. Tryouts will be announced.

Soccer - Spring
All grade levels are able to participate in soccer. Students must have a physical and be academically eligible. Tryouts will be announced.

Track and field - Spring
All grade levels are able to participate in track. Students must have a physical and be academically eligible. Tryouts will be announced.

Baseball - Spring
All grade levels are able to participate in baseball. Students must have a physical and be academically eligible. Tryouts will be announced.

Girls Flag Football
We are excited to announce that we will now have girls flag football as a sport in APS. This is also a spring sport. Students must have a physical and be academically eligible to participate.
