The Office of Safety & Security

Under the Division of Operations, it's purpose is to provide a safe and secure environment for the students, staff, and families of the Atlanta Public Schools District. This basic and essential need is of the highest importance to ensure success for students. Providing this environment also includes assessing and addressing all the physical needs of APS Schools and properties around the clock; preventing loss and damage. 

With a student-centered focus, Atlanta Public Schools launched in-house Office of Safety and Security in the 2016-2017 school year. That bold new step included a new Police Department, Emergency Management as well as a Security Operations department. Since it's inception, APS has taken the the district has hiring individuals who philosophically align with the district’s social emotional learning approach, and a national TRIAD model that involves law enforcement officers serving as informal counselors and educators to accomplish this mission.
