Saadia Mae Baker is a committed and dedicated educator to scholars’ success inside and outside the classroom. A graduate of Spelman College, Walden University, and Columbus State University, Saadia brings a wealth of knowledge, expertise, and experience to the educational profession. She began teaching in 1998 as an educator at the M. L. K. Jr. Child Development Center in Atlanta, GA. In 1999, she joined the Atlanta Public Schools system, teaching 2nd grade at Alonzo F. Herndon Elementary School. She would later teach Kindergarten, 3rd, and 5th grade, serve as a mentor teacher, grade-level chairperson, Design Team Chairperson, Teach for America Faculty Advisor, and SFA Teacher Tutor. During her tenure at Herndon Elementary School, Saadia received numerous awards and accolades for her dedicated service.
After Herndon’s closure, Saadia matriculated to Perkerson Elementary School, where she taught 3rd and 4th grade, served as grade-level chairperson, Leadership Team Chair, District Professional Learning Presenter, coordinator of the school-based New Teachers Mentor Program, Faculty PLC Book Study group, and on several other school-based committees.
Currently, under the leadership and direction of Dr. Phyllis Earls at Frank L. Stanton Elementary School, Saadia has served as a Reading Specialist for grades K-5, a district Curriculum Vetter, Leadership Team Chairperson, worked with several partners to secure literature-rich text for scholars’ at-home libraries, 2021 Summer School Site Administrator for the Academic Recovery Academy and literacy instructional coach for grades 3rd-5th. During her tenure at Frank L. Stanton Elementary School, Saadia continues to serve the needs of the school and community at large.
She believes every scholar is a diamond in the rough waiting to be uncovered. Through her tenacity and strong determination, she has resolved that all a scholar needs is someone in their corner who will draw out the untapped greatness inside them. When not engaged in some educational feat, Saadia enjoys spending quality time with her four children, reading, and being an out-the-box volunteer in her church’s children’s ministry.
