Welcome Back to APS Fickett Families,
The Atlanta Public Schools family wants to welcome you back—or welcome you for the first time if you are new to our community—for another great year of quality teaching and learning, plus experiential opportunities that are designed to prepare all APS scholars for college, career, and life.
At APS, growth is our strength, and we are devoted to advancing every student to grade- level proficiency and beyond. During the 2022-23 school year, APS achieved an all-time high graduation rate of 84%! Our teachers and students worked hard and met many of our annual targets for both literacy and numeracy.
We recognize every student has limitless potential, and it’s our joy to do all we can to draw it out of them. The work is sometimes hard, but the mission is possible, and our educators are ready for yet another year of growth and progress.
Every APS employee—from bus drivers, to cafeteria workers, to teachers and counselors—is committed to our mission and understands the crucial part they play in providing your student with the support needed to succeed.
And… we cannot truly achieve success if we do it alone! We need every parent and caretaker to join us as a partner in your student’s learning, development, and wellness. What does that partnership look like?
- Make sure your student attends school and arrives on time each day. Attendance is directly related to student outcomes including graduation rate!
- Communicate consistently with your student’s teachers; make sure your student puts forth the effort to complete schoolwork on time.
- Ensure your student gets proper rest every school night, especially during testing periods.
- Be present and engaged for student performances, activities, and recognitions as much as possible.
- Participate in parent engagement events at the school and district level.
- Complete surveys to offer input regarding how we’re doing; we value your feedback and consider it in school and district planning!
- Update your contact information with the school office or via the Parent Portal; don’t miss important messages about academics, activities, and most importantly safety.
- Take advantage of the many student supports offered by APS, including no-cost telehealth, our Academic Recovery Academy, and the Grow with Google micro- credentialing program for teens, just to name a few.
We respect that you know what’s best for your child, and we are your partner to offer your child the best school experience possible. All of us in Atlanta Public Schools look forward to this partnership, we welcome you to reach out to us, and we thank you for entrusting us with the education of your student.
Welcome back and have a great school year!
