    Dear Parents:

Welcome to a fun-filled and productive school year!  My name is Mrs. Gaither, and it is a pleasure to serve as your child’s Gifted and Talented teacher.  I have over eighteen years of elementary school experience. Our theme this year is “Minds in Motion”.   The first units of study are as follows: 1st – 2nd Grades – Money Makes the World Go Round, a unit about economics, and 3rd-5th Grades – Mind Your Own Business, a unit about entrepreneurship and product development.

Students will attend class one day a week, where the focus is on standards-based differentiated lessons and activities that promote advanced communication skills, advanced research skills, creative thinking and problem solving skills, and higher order critical thinking skills. Units of study are aligned with the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards, Georgia Standards of Excellence, as well as the Atlanta Public School’s Gifted and Talented Program Standards. STEM activities and projects, as well as, activities that support the social and emotional needs of all children are ongoing throughout the school year.

All students should come prepared on their Gifted and Talented day with 1) 2 pocket folder, 2) notebook paper, 3) pencils, and 4) a marbled cover composition book for journaling.  Students are expected to complete all homework assignments, mini projects, and end of the unit performance tasks. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.

Open communication is extremely important to me. You are always welcome to visit my classroom. Please feel free to schedule a conference to discuss your child’s progress. I am available every day to talk with you between 2:15 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. I am looking forward to another fantastic and awesome school year!
