    Ralph J. Bunche

     

    • Born on August 7, 1904, in Detroit, Michigan

    • Attended UCLA, Harvard, Northwestern, and the London School of Economics

    • Was a political scientist and diplomat who received the 1950 Nobel Peace Prize for his 1940s mediation in Palestine; was the first man of color to be awarded the Nobel Prize.

    • He was involved in the formation and administration of the United Nations and in 1963, received the Medal of Freedom from President John F. Kennedy.
