Dear Sylvan Hills Community,
I would like to introduce myself to you as the PROUD new Principal of Sylvan Hills Middle School. I am honored to serve in this role, as it is one of dedication to excellence, dedication to student achievement, and dedication to being a servant leader in a community that boasts of history and pride. Not only am I excited to continue my work at Sylvan, but I look forward to the work we will all do together. One of my favorite African Proverbs is “It takes a village to raise a child.” I know that I cannot do this work alone, and I look forward to the many partnerships that I will continue and establish in this humbling seat.
Over the past 17 years, I have worked as a teacher, Special Education Coordinator, Special Education Lead Teacher, and Assistant Principal. Still, I consider my most important job to be that of a child advocate. My goal as Principal is to provide leadership that will facilitate each student reaching their greatest potential- both academically and socially. I am wholeheartedly committed to fully preparing our Golden Bears for success during post-secondary education or in their career. I commit to spending a lot of time with your children, getting to know their personalities, learning styles and interests. I vow to celebrate their successes, small and large. I vow to encourage them every day and I vow to let them know they are valued and have a special place in our school, in our community and in our world.
My greatest achievement comes not only professionally, but personally, as I am the wife to a Public Servant and mother of two beautiful children: Khalia and Cameron. I’m often told that I treat my school children as if they’re my own and truthfully, I simply enjoy that compliment. Please know that I will work tirelessly to ensure that all of OUR children have the best possible experiences while at Sylvan.
Once again, I am so very thankful to have the opportunity to continue my work at Sylvan as a Servant Leader and Child Advocate. Please know that I am committed to continuing the upward trajectory of Sylvan’s achievements and I look forward to creating many more partnered successes.
Always Sylvan Ready,
Mrs. Monica Blasingame
