What is Accelerated Reader (A.R.) ?  The Accelerated Reader program is a computerized program that tests basic reading comprehension. Students select books on their reading level, read independently or with a buddy, and take an independent comprehension test on the computer. Each book is worth a certain number of points based on its length and reading level. Students get a percentage of the points based on how many of the test questions they get right. The program tracks their progress over the course of the school year.  This is one of the most programs for 1st graders!  If you are ever in our class and hear the Staples "Easy Button", then you will know that someone made a 100 on their AR test!  They love it, and believe it or not... I never get tired of hearing it!

Obviously a major part of students taking AR tests is checking out books, reading the books at school/home and returning them the next day.  STUDENTS MUST RETURN THEIR LIBRARY BOOKS TO SCHOOL EACH DAY.  If library books are not returned, the students are unable to take an AR test, check out new books or participate in daily DEAR time.  Their may be times when your child comes home with the same books two nights in a row.  We try our best to let the children return books each day, but our schedule is sometimes so busy that it is impossible for all students to check out each day.  Also, if your child is not completing their class work, they will not have a chance to visit the library that day.
