Honors and Recognitions
- Both Georgia Department of Education (GADOE) STEM and STEAM certified. M. Agnes Jones is the only GADOE STEM certified school in Atlanta Public Schools (APS). M. Agnes Jones is the first traditional STEAM certified school in Atlanta Public Schools and only one of five elementary schools in the state of Georgia. The GADOE STEM/STEAM certification process is extremely rigorous.
- A Georgia Department of education STEAM demonstration and model school site allowing schools and administrators across the state of Georgia to observe MAJ STEAM best practices throughout the school year.
- One of six Atlanta Public schools with the largest increases in % of Proficient and Above on the End of Grade (EOG) across ALL Georgia Milestones grades (Spring 2019).
- Committed to early learning and provides an Early Learning Coach to support Pre-k – 2nd grade students and teachers.
- Visionary Guidance and Exceptional Leadership in Advancing STEM and STEAM Education in Georgia Schools Award (Principal)
- 2 Quality state rated pre- kindergarten classes
- Offers 2 standards driven STEAM Labs (upper and lower), Makerspace, Innovation Station in order to provide innovative lessons and projects that prepare students for 21st Century careers and post elementary options.
- Offers Spanish to kindergarten through fifth grade with on-line and virtual teacher (5th grade) through FuelEducation. This platform offers families the ability to access from home to allow students reinforcement of the Spanish lessons.
- Partnering with entities that are committed to helping fulfill the school’s mission and vision, including Georgia-Pacific, CEISMIC Ga. Tech, High Museum of Arts/Atlanta Alliance Theatre, Atlanta Food Bank, Spelman College Bonner Scholars, Arthur Blank Foundation, Westside Future Fund, Truly Living Well.
