Summer Academic Recovery Program Enrollment
The Academic Recovery Academy (Level Up) is a full-day summer program for all grade levels that combines literacy and math learning each morning and hands-on lessons through Power Up programming in the afternoon. Students will have the opportunity to receive virtual or in-person instruction that will help to address unfinished learning and academic learning loss, hands-on lessons via Power Up Programming in an engaging environment with embedded whole-child and social-emotional supports.
The Summer Academic Recovery Academy will have two distinct sessions:
Session 1 (Morning): Implement district selected academic recovery programming focused on literacy and mathematics and provide social emotional and behavioral wellness supports for all students, four hours per day, five days a week at Toomer Elementary for Toomer and BAMO students.
Session 2 (Afternoon): Offer APS Power Up programming (STEM/STEAM) at approximately 90 -120 minutes per day, five days a week.
How do I register my child?
All APS traditional school students are welcome to sign up for our summer school program. We will continue to strongly encourage identified students to sign up/register. All parents (K-12) and high school students will have access to register via our Infinite Campus (IC) “School Store” option beginning April 1, 2021. Parents will use their parent portal account to register and high school students will have the option to use their student account. If parents need access to their parent portal account, they can get access via the following link: https://ic.apsk12.org/campus/portal/atlanta.jsp.
Registration is open from April 1st - 30th, 2021.
Sign-up/Registration opens April 1, 2021. Parents will utilize the Infinite Campus (IC) “School Store” module to make program selections.
When will the program begin and end? What time is arrival and dismissal?
Our Summer Recovery Program “Level Up” will go through June 2nd to June 30th for 5 days a week. Students will be able to arrive at 8am and they will be dismissed at 2:30pm. Extended care may be available.
Will breakfast and lunch be provided?
Breakfast and lunch will be provided to all students, at no cost to the families. Students attending face-to-face will be provided meals on site. In partnership with identified partners and community organizations, virtual students will have a choice of five designated areas for weekly meal distribution. On Fridays, face-to-face students will receive take home meals for Saturday and Sunday.
Will bus transportation be provided?
Yes. APS will work with the school to determine bus routes for all students enrolled in the Summer Recovery Program at Toomer Elementary!
Will my child be taught by a Toomer teacher?
Teachers may be a mix of internal and external candidates. There is no guarantee that your child will have a teacher who works specifically at Toomer Elementary. All teachers will be certified to teach at the elementary level. Similar to a regular school year, teachers will have support from our instructional coaches as well as support from instructional paraprofessionals.
Will the school still abide by all mitigation strategies to reduce the risk of COVID-19?
Yes. We will continue to follow the Toomer Protocols & Procedures for COVID-19. Students and staff will still be required to wear masks and practice social distance while on school grounds.
What is the Power Up program?
Get on board as we move "Full STEAM Ahead" with summer learning success! Students will engage in innovative hands on activities while exploring Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM). Our STEAM program will be a fun and engaging four-week summer experience. Students will engage in daily STEAM block-making, building, creating and a variety of projects utilizing the engineering design process.
