Sharepoint vs BlackBoard

  • Sharepoint vs BlackBoard

Knowing the difference in our two website platforms will save you a lot of frustration.

    Short Answer

Sharepoint is a technology that is actually a platform.  APS uses the website building component to make sites for our INTRANET.  This intranet environment is only available to APS users and personnel.  Sharepoint is a Content Mangement System (CMS) and allows users to create and support other technologies such as interactive forms, data dashboards, document and file repositories, and much more.

Schoolwires or Blackboard as we now call it, is the "public-facing" website solution for APS.  It is also a CMS, and functions in manyways identically to Sharepoint.  The difference for most users will come down to look-and-feel.  Schoolwires is designed for web-based information exchange and communication.  In contrast, Sharepoint is built for sophisticated workplace productivity.
