March 30, 2020
Dear Trailblazing Parents,
Thank you so very much for all that you’re doing to ensure our scholars are actively engaged in teaching and learning activities during this time. We are aware that this type of learning is different for many of us; therefore, we want to do the very best that we can to make this as smooth as possible for everyone.
Distance/Virtual learning provides each of us an opportunity to continue learning during this extended time away from the school building. The plan assumes, for the most part, that scholars will interact with their teachers at least three times a week. Two online sessions via Google Meet, Zoom, or telephone conferencing in whole group, small group, and/or individual sessions, and one session for additional interactive tutorial or questions about the lessons/activities. Teachers will provide assignments/learning activities for math, ELA/reading, social studies and/or science Monday – Thursday and Friday will be reserved for Specials and school-wide activities/virtual field trips. Social and Emotional Learning activities will be conducted at least three (3) times per week. As always, our counselors will continue to provide resources to assist our families.
During this extended time away from the school building, our scholars are expected to access our digital resources through MyBackpack and any additional teacher platform already in use by their teacher. Platforms or digital resources may include, but are not limited to Google Meet, Google Classroom, Zoom, Class Dojo, Flipgrid, i-Ready, Lexia Core5, Illuminate, Moby Max, Study Island, iRead, Studies Weekly, Reading A – Z, and online digital textbooks. Non-digital assignments can be made available via email and scholars will be required to record their answers in their notebook or take a picture and send it to their teacher.
As a district, Monday, March 30th begins Phase 2 of our virtual learning plan; hence, it is imperative that your child actively participates in online class meetings as much as possible and completes assigned learning tasks.
Additionally during this phase, teachers are required to document participation, provide feedback to scholars and assess scholars’ learning during this phase. Therefore, please be sure you are staying connected with your child’s teacher via Class Dojo, Remind or phone conference, and periodically checking our website for updates.
We appreciate all that you are doing to help our little Trailblazers at home. Together, we will get through this and emerge better than we were before. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher or call the school at 404-802-8500 and be sure to leave a detailed message so that someone can get back to you.
