Curriculum + Technology
Virginia-Highland Elementary will open its doors to students in August 2023. The cost of refurbishing the school creates a need for VHE donors to fill the gap between APS funding levels and the curriculum/technology needs of the school.
Funding Priorities:
- iXL for math
- iXL for ELA
- Pik-My-Kid dismissal software
-
STEAM Lab
VHE aims to close the STEAM education gap. We are establishing a state-of-the-art STEAM lab to foster inquiry-based curriculum, innovation, leadership, and creativity.
Funding Priorities:

Library Initiative
Starting a new school means building a new library. The VHE media center will receive funding from APS for approximately 2,000 books. This is 10,000 fewer books than the libraries at nearby elementary schools. To close the gap, VHE is raising funds to directly purchase shelf-ready books and provide responsive and adequate reading materials for all 530 VHE students.
Funding Priorities:
- fiction and non-fiction titles
- Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) reading materials

Outdoor Space Refurbishment
The building which houses Virginia-Highland Elementary was built nearly 100 years ago. The playground, fields, and atrium offer a promising outdoor experience for our future students but are in need of rehabilitation.
Funding Priorities:

- installing turf for the fields
- installing sun shades
- providing bench seating along the playground
- installing bike racks

Funding Priorities:

- sheet music
-
Green School Initiative
Characteristics of a green school include creating spaces and curriculum in support of sustainable, energy conserving principles.
