Mrs. Melanie Johnson - Assistant Principal

Melanie L. Johnson, the Assistant Principal at M. Agnes Jones Elementary School, has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia and Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Georgia State University. Additionally, she has a Reading endorsement. She has also served as the Instructional Specialist, Leadership Support Specialist and Project GRAD Math Coach at M. Agnes Jones. Mrs. Johnson came to M. Agnes Jones from Fickett Elementary where she taught third grade for six years, served as the grade level chair and a Direct Instruction Coach.  As one of the school’s instructional leaders you can expect her to provide a strong focus on instructional strategies, and create a caring and supportive environment for children.  She truly believes that all children deserve an excellent education and that education is the key to preparing our students for success in college and beyond.

Mrs. Darlene Natson - Reading, Language Arts, and Social Studies Coach

Darlene C. Natson, instructional Reading/Social Studies Coach, earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree (T-4) at Savannah State College(Savannah, Georgia). She earned her Master’s Degree (T-5) at Cambridge College (Boston, MA) and her Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership at Lincoln Memorial University (Ducktown, TN). Mrs. Natson’s teaching career began at T. H. Slater Elementary School where she taught grades K-2. She also worked as a Chapter 1 Reading Teacher, R.E.P Teacher, and Reading First Director. In August 2000, she transferred to Peyton Forest Elementary School where she worked in the capacity of Grade Level Chairperson, First Grade Teacher, Modern Red Facilitator, and International Baccalaureate Facilitator. Mrs. Natson came to M. Agnes Jones Elementary School in 2011-2012 as a First Grade I.E.P Teacher. As an instructional leader she provides support to both teachers and students by creating and maintaining,Standard-based classrooms, print rich environments, quality implementation of instruction, and assuring that learning is meaningful and relevant.She believes that “Learning” is defined as a behavior, “you haven’t learned a thing until you take action and use it.”

Mrs. Keisha Tyson-Johnson

Keisha Tyson-Johnson, Math/Science Coach at M. Agnes Jones Elementary School, has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Armstrong State University. She earned her Masters at Cambridge College, and an ED.S in Curriculum & Instruction at Lincoln Memorial  and is currently completing her Instructional Coach add on with Middle Georgia RESA.  Mrs. Tyson-Johnson has taught Pre-K, 3rd,4th & 5th grades. In addition to education Mrs. Tyson-Johnson (TJ) is an active member of the Tau Epsilon Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and owns her own Event Planning business.  She recently joined Jones elementary from Drew Charter School where she was a 4th grade Science teacher, Grade level Science Committee Chair, A part of the STEAM Cohort, and Head Coach of the Science Olympiad Team. Mrs. TJ’s strengths are Achiever, Focus, Command, Responsibility, and Restorative. She believe that learning should be interactive and engaging. She also believes, a true teacher goes the extra mile to ensure that every child learns!

Mrs. Xylana Shannon - Counselor

Xylana Shannon, School Counselor at M. Agnes Jones Elementary School, has a Bachelor’s degree in Middle Childhood Education from Georgia State University.  She earned her Master’s degree in School Counseling from the University West Alabama.  Ms. Shannon came to M. Agnes Jones from King Middle School where she taught Language Arts and Reading for a total of eight years.  She also served at King Middle School as the RTI/ SST Intervention Specialist for two years.  As a school counselor you can expect her to nurture the academic, social and emotional growth of all students. Through individual, group and classroom counseling, students will develop skills in the areas of self- awareness, self-management, responsible decision making, relationship skills and social awareness. She provides support to all students, their families and our staff.  She firmly believes that SEL (Social Emotional Learning) is the foundation for academic, career and life-long success.

Ms. Lindsey Rutledge

Lindsey R. Rutledge, Early Learning Coach, earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from Howard University (Washington, DC) and her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education (T-5) from Georgia State University. Along with her degrees, she holds a science endorsement and ESOL certification.

Her teaching career began at M. Agnes Jones Elementary School in 2013, and this school has a very special place in her heart. She has had the opportunity to teach 2nd grade (2 years) and was the K-5 STEM teacher for the last three years. She has worked in the capacity of a grade level chair, mentor teacher, STEM specialist, professor at Georgia State University, and YMCA afterschool site director. With her experience in education, she has had the opportunity to nurture and instill inquiry in the minds of her students at many levels, elementary and post-secondary. She is dedicated to not only engaging students in real-world problem/project-based activities, but helping educators and administrators create and implement a curriculum that is tied to their state standards and integrated with technology. Her experience as a teacher, STEM Specialist, and now Instructional Coach has afforded her the opportunities to inspire, educate, and motivate our future leaders, reassuring them that they were born to conquer their dreams and aspirations.
