History

  • Virginia-Highland Elementary School is part of Atlanta Public Schools.  The school is located in the Virginia-Highland neighborhood and serves students currently residing in Ansley Park, Midtown, Morningside, Sherwood Forest and Virginia-Highland.  Virginia-Highland Elementary was originally built in 1924 and was named after Samuel Martin Inman, a cotton merchant from Tennessee.  Through the years, the school has been renovated and newer editions to the facility were added and, in 1978, the elementary school was converted into a middle school.

Virginia-Highland Elementary was born in 2023, when the in-town elementary schools of Morningside and Springdale Park became so popular, they outgrew their spaces.  In 2023, Virginia-Highland Elementary opened with approximately 535 students from the Morningside and Springdale Park Elementary schools. Mr. Terry Harness was named the first principal of Virginia-Highland Elementary.

With over 535 students currently enrolled at Virginia-Highland Elementary, our charming and historic school offers a rigorous course load, including art, music, physical education, media center, technology and an extensive STEAM curriculum for all grades.  Virginia-Highland Elementary also offers Spanish for all grade levels, band and orchestra for 4th & 5th grade students and Gifted & Talented instruction for all students who qualify.
