• There are a LOT of events and programs happening at Toomer. Here's a quick glossary to help unpack what they mean, when they are, and who they are for!

     

    5th Grade Week (May) These events are for 5th graders (and their families only), but volunteers are much appreciated. Get ready to roller-skate and dance the night away! The 5th graders celebrate as they glide into middle school with a week full of exciting events, including a roller skate party and a sneaker ball extravaganza!
    Black History Program (February) Jam out to an evening of energetic performances as we celebrate Black History Month! From soulful songs to lively dances, this event is a vibrant tribute to our rich history.
    Cougar Pride Celebrations (Monthly) Time to cheer loud and proud! Every last Friday of the month, join us for a high-energy celebration where we honor student achievements and give IB awards with claps, cheers, and lots of spirit. It’s a heartwarming must-see!     Curriculum Night (August) Get the inside scoop on what your child will be learning! Join us in August for a sneak peek into the exciting curriculum ahead and a chance to ask those burning questions. Check out our Parent Guide to Curriculum Night!
    Dine Outs (Monthly) The PTA teams up with local restaurants for special nights where a portion of the proceeds supports Toomer’s fundraising efforts. Enjoy great food and even better company!
    End of Year Awards Days (May) Grab the tissues! This event occurs every year at the end of the school year in May! We celebrate each grade level with a heartfelt awards ceremony, honoring students’ hard work and IB characteristics. It’s a day to recognize and rejoice!
    Family Dance (February) Put on your dancing shoes! Our February Family Dance is full of fun, with red and pink decorations, light refreshments, and lots of grooving to celebrate Valentine’s Day!
    Family Engagement Nights (Sept, Oct, Jan, & Mar) These nights help educate parents on what their children are learning in the classroom. Join us in the Fall for Literacy Night and Math Night, where you can enjoy dinner and participate in activities with your child that promote learning.  Science Night & Game Night, usually held in January and March, respectively, are for the entire family with lots of hands-on activities for kids. 
    Jackson Cluster Nights (Fall & Spring) Get ready to mingle with the Jackson Cluster! From football games to festivals to Fine Arts Night, join us for various events throughout the year with other elementary schools that feed into King Middle School and Maynard Jackson High School.
    Let’s Talk about Toomer and King (Fall & Spring) Curious about Toomer or King Middle School? Prospective parents join our informal Zoom sessions to chat with current parents, get the inside scoop, and answer questions.
    Open House (July) Get a head start on the school year! Come to Open House, held the day before school starts, to meet your child’s teacher, explore the school, and snag some Toomer swag. It’s the perfect pre-school year warm-up!

    Parent Coffees with the Principal (Fall & Spring)

    		 Twice a year, join us for coffee and donuts after drop-off to hear from our Principal. There are also other parents there to mingle with!
    Parent-Teacher Conferences (Fall & Spring) Time for a one-on-one! Meet with your child’s teacher to discuss their progress and ways to support their success. Conferences take place in the Fall and Spring.
    PTA Meetings (Monthly) No official membership needed to attend PTA meetings. Feel the need to roll up your sleeves and get involved! During the 24-25 school years, the meetings will have speakers from both the school and the community. 

    Attend our meetings for updates, engaging speakers, and a chance to be a part of our vibrant school community.
    Screen on the Green (October) Movie night magic! Bring your blanket and enjoy a family-friendly film under the stars. With free popcorn and a cozy atmosphere, it’s the perfect way to wind down.
    Spelling Bee (Spring) Our annual Spelling Bee has separate rounds for Kinders and Grades 1-5 and parents are invited to come watch. Ready to spell your way to victory?
    Teacher Appreciation Week (May) Let’s give a big cheer for our amazing teachers! Every year in early May, Toomer PTA goes all out to show our teachers how much we appreciate them and everything they do for our kids. Funds raised by the PTA are used to show our love on behalf of all Toomer parents.
    Toomer Toasts  Raise a virtual glass! At each PTA meeting, we celebrate standout members of our community with Toomer Toasts. Shout-outs are recorded and shared on social media, with a written option for the camera-shy!
    Uniform Closet Need a wardrobe refresh? All families are encouraged to shop and donate to our Uniform Closet. You’ll find freshly washed, slightly used or new clothes that are perfect to suit up your child in Toomer’s Spirit Colors. Golden yellow, Black or White tops, Khaki or Black bottoms. It’s like a ‘Little Free Library’ for your child’s school uniform needs!
    Volunteer/Donor Appreciation Breakfast (April) A breakfast of thanks! In April, join us for a special celebration to honor all the volunteers and donors who have helped throughout the year. Enjoy a showcase of our cheer team, poetry club, and band!
    Winter Holiday Program (December) Cozy up for a heartwarming winter celebration! Our students will sing, dance, and celebrate Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Christmas, and the Chinese New Year. Hot cocoa and cookies add to the festive fun!
    IB Showcases Five times throughout the year (September, November, December, February and April), families are invited to see students' culminating projects from their IB Units. This is a chance to see your child's work on display and learn more about how IB is incorporated into academics at Toomer.
