Registration and Enrollment for Kindergarten
All new students will need to register to attend Toomer Elementary School. For new Kindergarten students, register here. As a public school, students are welcome to register and enroll at any time. However, earlier registration helps with the following:
-
Building equitable classes
-
Retaining and hiring the correct number of staff from the jump
-
Reduces the shifting of students in classrooms (and the strain on school staff having to register students).
Registration and Enrollment for NON-Kindergarten
Current Georgia Residents: By state law, children must be 5 by September 1 of the school year in order to enroll in kindergarten during that school year.
Children Moving from other States or Countries: Children who were legal residents of another state or country for a period of two years immediately prior to moving to Georgia and who were legally enrolled in a public, state/regional or equivalently accredited kindergarten are eligible for enrollment in kindergarten if the child is 5 by December 31.
New student (NOT rising Kindergarten) enrollment information can be accessed here.

We will also be hosting three summer meet ups for incoming families. Those dates will be shared in the spring.

Community-Wide Summer Meet-Ups
All incoming and current Toomer families are invited to join us this summer for popsicles and fun! Dates and details for these low-key park meet ups will be sent out and posted on our social media pages (connect with us on Instagram here and Facebook here).
Kindergarten Team
There are four kindergarten classes at Toomer, and this team is dynamic! Each kindergarten class also has a paraprofessional full time in the classroom to support the teacher and students. You’ll get to meet your child’s kindergarten teacher at Open House, which is July 31, 2026.
These short interviews with Toomer’s ELA (English Language Arts) Coach (and former Kindergarten teacher), Ms. Max, walk you through preparing your child for the first day.

Support Toomer at the Spirit Store
Show your Cougar pride with a t-shirt! Order with the link above and items will be mailed directly to you (on Fridays, students are encouraged to dress in Toomer spirit gear).
You can order a copy of our Toomer Community Cookbook, join the PTA, and make a donation directly on Memberhub.
Uniforms
Toomer students are encouraged to wear a uniform that represents our school. The school uniform consists of khaki or black bottoms and black, yellow/gold, or white collared (and preferably plain) tops. Bottoms can also include shorts, skorts, jumpers, and leggings. These clothing items can be purchased at any store that works for you and your family.
To help minimize cost and waste, the PTA maintains a uniform closet. This will allow you to trade out your gently-worn uniform for a larger size. The PTA and front office support staff will be managing the closet throughout the school year and will frequently have clothes displayed and available for selection during school events. If you need assistance in obtaining uniform clothes, you can speak to front office staff, who can help you to get a brand-new set of clothes and outerwear for your Toomer child(ren). If you need uniform assistance, contact our Social Worker Nisha Warren at Cramnisha.Stevens@atlanta.k12.ga.us.
Note that Fridays are “non uniform” days and students are encouraged (but not required) to wear Toomer spirit gear.
Please note no child will be punished for opting out of the uniform policy- uniforms are encouraged but not required.
The PTA has put together guides for the parent community to help them navigate the school experience. Check them all out at the link above including: Learning Apps; Curriculum Night; Literacy Night; Math Night; Science Night; Field Day; Talking to Teachers; Building Classroom Community; MAP Testing; GMAS; PRIDE Celebrations; Literacy; Family Engagement; and more!
Toomer Renovation
Toomer underwent a $20M building renovation during the 2023-2024 school year. We have since moved back in our new and improved building for the start of the 2024-2025 school year, and have the most modernized, secure building in all of APS.
International Baccalaureate (IB)
The IB Primary Years Programme, for students aged 3 to 12 focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. It is a framework guided by six transdisciplinary themes of global significance, with a powerful emphasis on inquiry- based learning. Toomer has been a IB World School since February 2022. Watch Toomer’s IB Coordinator explain more about what IB looks like at Toomer AND see a slideshow of our first Exhibition via the videos below:
Restorative Practices at Toomer
Did you know that exposure to restorative practices increases student achievement, reduces discipline disparities and leads to decreases in schoolwide misbehavior, including bullying?" Restorative practices offer Toomer an alternative to traditional disciplinary actions that center on punishment for misbehavior and breaking rules. Our restorative practices focus on resolving conflict, repairing harm, and healing relationships and utilize talking circles to distribute power among students and the sharing of power between adults and young people. Zero tolerance-style policies and punitive measures push out and further disadvantage the very kids who need learning and community connections the most. A restorative culture can mitigate the negative effects of punitive discipline policies that exacerbate inequity. See below for interviews with school staff on this approach!
Restorative Practices YouTube Playlist
This includes interviews with our Restorative Practices coach and school leadership.
Check out “Toomer Toasts” from parents who call out teachers, staff, and/or programs who have made an impact on their family! There are also a lot of other great videos on programs at Toomer.
You can officially join the PTA with the link above. To sign up for our email list ONLY, sign up here. Anyone can join the PTA, regardless if you are a parent or not! And all parents and caregivers are welcome to attend PTA meetings, even if you aren’t an official PTA member. Read more about the PTA on our website here.
