    ACTS

Last school year, South Atlanta High School began establishing the foundation to begin a STEM program whose student created vision is to use STEM to solve problems in their community.  Given this inspiring focus, our STEM program was named the A.C.T.S. (Advocating for the Community Through STEM) Program.  The 2017-18 school year marks our first implementation year and we have 45 STEM students who are currently enrolled in the program.  We have some wonderful opportunities for interested individuals/organizations to partner in our efforts to provide a robust curriculum to our young people.

VERIZON INNOVATIVE LEARNING PROGRAM and STEM PROGRAM ADVISORY BOARD

Recently, South Atlanta High School was one of five schools in Atlanta awarded with $20,000 from Verizon Foundation and Arizona State University.  The grant will be used for students to develop tech solutions for local businesses and non-profit organizations.  The program curriculum focuses on developing students in a variety of areas including professionalism, public speaking and presentation, understanding small businesses, developing empathy for end users, design thinking just to name a few.  In addition, our STEM Program will need a STEM Advisory Board of external professionals who will be willing to meet 1-2 times per year to conduct an audit of the school's STEM Strategic Plan in action and to give recommendations for improvement. If you are interested in assisting with this effort, please contact Ms. Andrea P. Miller at 404-802-5037 or apmiller@atlanta.k12.ga.us .

    STEM SELECTION AD HOC TEAM

The South Atlanta High School STEM Program will be selecting students for its 2nd cohort in January/February 2018.  We are looking for a group of people who will be interested helping us out in one or more of the following areas:

    • Reviewing last year's selection process and finding areas of strength and improvement.
    • Volunteering to assist on selection days by conducting activities with students, scoring students and conducting 2nd round interviews.
    • Assisting with selection special events (Admission Announcement Event and STEM Family Welcome Event)

If you are interested in assisting with this effort, please contact Ms. Andrea P. Miller at 404-802-5037 or apmiller@atlanta.k12.ga.us .

    SCIENCE FAIR
This semester, all students in South Atlanta High School's A.C.T.S. (Advocating for the Community Through STEM) Program will be participating in the school Science Fair.  The fair will be held at the school on Friday, December 8th from 9:00 AM - Noon.  We are looking for individuals who can serve as judges.  If you are not available that on that particular day and time, you can also get involved by helping students practice their presentation in the days leading up to the competition.  Please complete the following form above if interested in attending.  If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Andrea Pendergrass at apendergrass@atlanta.k12.ga.us
