Dear Class of 2020,
We hope your time since attending Atlanta Public Schools has been prosperous and that you and your loved ones are safe and healthy during these unprecedented times.
Like you, we were disappointed that we could not host Commencement Week in May or September, however we are committed to hosting in-person ceremonies for you in November. This survey is to update you on our current plans and ask for you to register if you plan to attend our in-person ceremonies in November. If public health guidelines at the time allow us to proceed as planned, our fall ceremonies will be held during the second week of November 2020.
All spring/summer 2020 graduates are required to complete the Fall 2020 Commencement Registration form to indicate whether or not you plan to attend your ceremony. The form is now open and the deadline for submission is Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at 11:59 p.m.
The Office of High Schools will continue to share updates as more details become available using the contact information you provide.

Dear South Atlanta Families,
I hope this letter finds all of you healthy and safe. By now you have likely heard Atlanta Public Schools’ decision to begin the new school year virtually on August 24th. I wanted to share with our school community that I am working together with staff and other schools within the cluster to continue the planning started last spring for the upcoming school year. We are waiting for final guidance from the district to develop a more comprehensive plan; once this plan is solidified I will communicate it out.
Like you, I had hoped to be back in school for the new school year. However, as Atlanta is currently experiencing substantial spread of COVID-19, the district determined face-to-face instruction is not possible at this time. Now that the reopening decision has been made, our focus is singular - creating the best virtual learning experience for our students and families. Please know that I am collaborating with my fellow cluster principal colleagues, and all of these perspectives are guiding the planning as we prepare for Day One.
As a school community, your patience and trust is appreciated. My commitment to the community is to keep you informed as plans are finalized. To stay informed please note that our superintendent, Dr. Lisa Herring, will host a community townhall to share more information about the district’s plans on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at 6 pm. I encourage you to join the conversation to stay informed about plans as they continuously develop. Be well, and know that I will be in touch soon.
Patricia Ford, Ed. D.

Dear South Atlanta Families,
We hope this letter finds all of our South Atlanta families healthy and safe. By now, you should have heard from each of us regarding Atlanta Public Schools’ decision to begin the new school year virtually on August 24, 2020. As the South Atlanta Cluster Principals, we wanted to share with our whole community that we are working together to prepare a successful virtual start for all of our children and families, we want to make you aware of some of the most important things we know so far:
All students will have access to working technology and/or a hotspot for wifi if needed. Students will need access to a device and reliable internet for the entire school day. Each school will send a survey to families to assess technology needs.
As soon as we are aware of the district requirements for scheduling, grading, attendance and accountability we will share them with you. Please know we understand the strain this may put on working families and will be as flexible and supportive as possible.
While we will be flexible, attendance and work completion are required for all students. It is extremely important that you communicate with us regularly about anything that will keep your student from being engaged daily so we can offer support.
School staff will begin reaching out in the coming weeks to students who were not engaged in the Spring to see how we can support you being successful in the Fall. High school students will be offered an opportunity to clear any “Incompletes” received in the Spring.
Each school will send out a schedule for when students can come in during the week of August 17th in small groups to meet their teachers, and to receive technology (if needed). Updates will be sent on social media, Class Dojo and Infinite Campus about virtual schedules and dates for meeting teachers, testing, and picking up items. Stay connected!
All schools are currently completing registration for students who will be newly enrolled (did not attend last year). The process is online here… https://www.atlantapublicschools.us/Page/34748

In alignment with the current public health status in Fulton County and the substantial spread of COVID-19 in the state of Georgia,
Atlanta Public Schools will postpone the 2020 in-person graduations, previously scheduled for the week of July 20th, to a later safe date.
The safety of our graduates, families and district employees remain a top priority.
While we understand that this decision will be a disappointment to the Class of 2020 and their loved ones, we commit to rescheduling
graduations when the community health status improves. Again, we still believe #APSGrad2020 is #worththewait and look forward to honoring
our graduates in person soon! To submit questions concerning this decision, go to the Let’s Talk feature on the homepage of the
