    Atlanta Public Schools (APS) became a charter system on September 25, 2015, to increase student achievement and improve organizational effectiveness and efficiency. APS’s charter contract is effective July 1, 2016.

    A key component of operating as a Georgia charter system is the establishment of Local School Governance Teams at the 71 APS neighborhood schools. Local School Governance Teams are also known as LSGTsand/or GO Teams.  GO Teams work with school leadership and the community to help determine the long term direction of the school, design innovative solutions to increase student achievement, and serve as school ambassadors to the local community.

    Who is on the GO Team?
    GO Teams consist of 3 parents (elected by parents), 3 instructional staff (elected by staff members), 2 community members (nominated by principal), 1 swing seat (selected by GO Team), and 1 principal (non-voting member). 

    Sarah Smith Elementary Public Comment Information:
    Every member of our school community has a voice, and we welcome and encourage all parents, staff, and community stakeholders to join in the conversation by asking questions and sharing ideas with the GO Team to help better inform our decisions. Every GO Team meeting is open to the public and designated meetings will include an opportunity for public comment.  Click here for the Google form to sign up in advance of the meeting.  You can also reach out to any of your GO Team members with questions, comments or concerns at any time. 

    SRS GO TEAM Public Comment Format

    • Up to 20 minutes will be set aside for public commentary at select meetings as noted on the published meeting schedule and agenda.
    • Those wishing to comment will sign in at the beginning of the meeting.
    • Each speaker will have 2 minutes to share with the Go Team. Speakers will be timed by a member of the Go Team and notified when time has expired.
    • The Public Comment period is designed to gain input from the public and not for immediate responses by the Go Team to the public comment presented.
