Through Project Based Learning and the STEAM curriculum (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics), Slater Elementary School provides students with impactful learning opportunities that teach them how to become thinkers and problem-solvers.

Our classes focus on small group instruction and intensive, personalized academic and social emotional interventions to help unlock the potential for success in every student. The Project Based Learning framework allows students to learn the Georgia Standards of Excellence by solving problems that matter to them.

An extended school day and enrichment programs help students discover their talents and passions by participating in mentorship and internship programs and experiencing field trips, band, dance, robotics, sports and other activities.

All students have access to:

All students enrolled at TH Slater in grades K-5 are provided with grade-level instruction aligned to the Georgia Standards of Excellence as mandated by the Georgia Department of Education.

Our chosen Tier 1 Curriculum for Mathematics is EnVision Mathematics by SAVAAS.

Our chosen Tier 1 Curriculum for ELA is MyView Literacy by SAVVAS. 

Phonics instruction is currently supplemented by Kendore Learning in grades K-5. Kendore learning is an approach to teaching phonics derived from Orton-Gillingham. 

TH Slater engages in daily tiered intervention time for all students in grades K-5. Our intervention time allows us to engage in small group instruction to truly meet students where they are without pulling them out of their Tier 1 instruction.  

Our intervention time is supported by multiple computer based resources including:

• IXL for Mathematics 
• Lexia for Reading

We also leverage our Math Lab, Literacy Lab, and our partnerships with Read Source and Leap Year to minimize our student to adult ratio during small-group intervention time. In some cases, we are able to get our student-to-adult ratio as low as 4 to 1 during small-group-intervention-time.
