- Notice About Your Rights Concerning Student Record

Dear Parent or Student:
State and federal law gives parents, guardians, and students 18 years of age and older certain rights concerning school records. These rights are listed below.
1. As a parent or guardian you have a right to review your child’s school records,and those persons 18 years and older have a right to review their school records.To review the records, you should give the principal a written request listing therecords that you wish to see. The principal must allow you to see the recordswithin 45 days from receiving your request.2. As a parent or guardian you have the right to request changes in your child’sschool records if you believe the records to be inaccurate, misleading, orthat they violate your privacy rights. If you are a student age 18 years orolder, you may also request changes in your record if you believe the recordsto be inaccurate, misleading, or they violate your privacy rights. To changeschool records, you must notify the school principal in writing which informationyou wish changed and why you think it should be changed. If the principalagrees with the request, the records will be changed. If the principal disagreeswith the request, a hearing may be requested with the appropriate School ReformTeam Executive Director.3. Some of the information in your child’s school records is not confidentialand may be releasedwithout your consent. This information is known as"directory information." Directory informationincludes the following:• full legal name• the image or likeness in pictures, videotape, film, or other medium• dates of attendance• major field of study• participation in officially recognized sports and activities• height and weight of athletic team members• degrees and awards received• most recent educational institution attended• subsequent educational institution attended• academic work intended for publication or display4. Military recruiters and institutions of higher education are entitled under federallaw to a list of names, addresses, and telephone numbers of high schoolstudents unless you object to such release.5. Both parents have a right to see the school records of their child unless thereis a certified copy of a court order on file at the school that specifically deniesthe right to access school records. Copies of school records are available fora minimal copying charge. If you have any questions about these rights, pleasecontact the school office.If you do not want directory information released, please complete the Nondisclosure of Student Information form on Page 75 of this Student Handbook and return to the principal. This form must be received no later than September 1st of each year or within 10 days of receiving this notice.
