Brianne Turgeon

Brianne Turgeon has been the Music and Chorus teacher at Springdale Park since it opened in 2009. Ms. Turgeon believes it is important to use her talents and experience to make Music a part of the fabric of the school and the SPARK community. She believes music makes life better, and she is dedicated to helping students find their talents in music and in their lives.

Ms. Turgeon is a Georgia native who graduated from Forest Park High School and received a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Georgia. She earned a Master of Music Education from the University of Southern Mississippi and has earned certificates for Orff Level I and Level II, and for workshops in World Music Drumming, Guitar methodology, and choral conducting.

Ms. Turgeon is an active musician and teacher in the Atlanta area, singing with the Grammy Award-Winning Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus and Chamber Chorus since 1993 (she’s won 6 Grammys with the ASO!), with the women’s a cappella group Yes, Virginia! since 1996, and she has been the Assistant Music Director for the Atlanta Young Singers of Callanwolde since 1999.

As a professional Music Educator Ms. Turgeon has taught General Music and Choral Music on all levels K-12 since 1994, including:

  • 1994-1999 K-12 Music/Chorus Teacher in Butts County Schools at Jackson Primary, Henderson Middle, and Jackson High School, where she was the vocal Literary coach and the musical theatre director and producer. Under her direction the JHS Boys Quartet won first place in the Regional Literary competition in 1998.
  • 1999-2006 K-5 Music/Chorus Teacher in Rockdale County Schools teaching Music and Success for All (SFA) reading at C. J. Hicks Elementary School where she was voted Teacher of the Year in 2005.
  • 2006-2009 K-5 Music/Chorus Teacher at Morningside and East Lake (2007-08) Elementary Schools, where her focus was musical outreach in the community. During her time at MES she directed “Musical Morningside” the MES 4th and 5th grade Chorus.
  • 2009-present K-5 Music/Chorus Teacher at Springdale Park, Toomer (2009-10), Usher (2010-11), and White (2011-12) Elementary Schools. The Music@SPARK Chorus and Advanced Chorus have performed at the APS Superintendent’s Fireside Chat, The Georgia Governor’s Mansion, Georgia Tech, the Inman Park Parade, the Gwinnett Gladiators, and at the Virginia Highlands’ Summerfest Kidstage. The Music@SPARK Advanced Chorus has earned Superior ratings in both Repertoire and Sight-Reading for the GMEA Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE) and participated in the Children’s Community Chorus Festival (CCCF).

Ms. Turgeon has also received the following Grants and Awards:

  • CINS Grant 2008 (at MES): Guitar Heroes—purchasing 8 acoustic guitars for a student-driven Guitar Class
  • CINS Grant 2008 (at MES): American Tunes—purchasing digital recording equipment for concerts and classroom use
  • CINS Grant 2010: Oye!—purchasing Latin instruments and sheet music for our all-Spanish language concert
  • Atlanta Families’ Award for Excellence in Education 2013: Funding and inspiration for the Science in Music project connecting grade-level and Music curricula
  • Voted Teacher of the Year at Springdale Park in 2014

In her free time Ms. Turgeon enjoys spending time with her husband Sean and their two cats, being with her parents, four sisters, and her friends, singing, dancing, traveling with family and Atlanta Young Singers, searching for mid-century antiques and Elvis memorabilia, reading, thinking, and having a wonderful life. She is still searching for a new NHL team to root for since the Atlanta Thrashers were relocated to Winnipeg.
