Degrees and Certifications:
Nakia Bryant is a dedicated teacher. In fact, she has been teaching since she was a very young age. Her fire for teaching “sparked” as she played school with her siblings and neighborhood friends as a young child in central Alabama where she was born and raised. Even through play, at such a young age she amazed everyone with her teaching skills and leadership abilities. Softball, cheering, and Girl Scouts are a few more things Nakia did for fun while she was an elementary school student.
After graduating from high school, she attended Alabama State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and a Master of Education degree in elementary education. She is genuinely passionate about teaching and learning; so after moving to Georgia in 2005, she continued her education by earning an Educational Specialist degree in educational leadership from Argosy University, Atlanta.
Before becoming a teacher, Nakia worked as a television news producer in Montgomery, AL. In that career, she learned invaluable skills that would transfer to the field of education to help her become a great teacher. She has been dedicated to teaching “professionally” J for 13 years. Most of her teaching experience is with primary grade levels. She began her teaching career in Alabama. That is where she realized first-hand the important role teachers play in helping mold children into responsible adults. She has worked with Atlanta Public Schools for the last two school years as a first grade teacher.
As a classroom teacher, she enjoys making learning meaningful and fun through the use of discovery investigations, games, songs, hands-on manipulatives, multi-sensory learning, projects, and technology. First grade is her favorite grade level to teach. One of the things she enjoys about teaching first grade is teaching children reading foundational skills. She is filled with pride as she watches her students blossom into fluent readers who enjoy reading for knowledge and pleasure. When asked, her former students described her as being smart, hard-working, funny, strict, and nice. Nakia has been recognized for motivating students, implementing effective teaching strategies, and helping students reach outstanding achievement levels on standardized testing.
In addition to working in the field of education, Nakia aspires to become a children’s book author. When she is not teaching, you may spot Nakia at a concert, theatrical play, comedy show, cheering for the home team, or taking a jog through the scenic routes of town. She also finds delight in seeking adventure with her family, watching HGTV, and singing off-key while listening to the sounds of a good music playlist including Christian songs, ‘80s hits, pop, soft rock, and R&B.
Nakia is excited about joining the SPARK family this school year. Teaching is indeed her superpower, so she has adopted superheroes as the classroom theme. She is looking forward to helping her students recognize their super talents and reach their full potential. It is her desire as an educator to encourage her students become life-long learners who show respect for all people and the environment.
