  • Atlanta Public Schools is dedicated to fostering the professional growth of all educators by providing diverse career development opportunities. We offer a range of pathways and support mechanisms tailored to various experience levels, ensuring that each teacher has access to resources and programs designed to enhance their skills, advance their careers, and achieve their professional goals.

    Mission

Our mission is to support induction phase teachers in their growth towards becoming autonomous and effective educators by providing scaffolded structures that lead to increased teacher retention, accelerated teacher practice and ultimately increased student achievement.

    Vision

A highly effective teacher induction program that fosters reflective practitioners who are innovative, dedicated and passionate about the students and communities they serve.

  • The purpose of the District Teacher Induction Program is to provide support and guidance to teachers as they begin their careers in the teaching profession. The program is designed to help induction-phase teachers adjust to their roles and responsibilities and to develop the skills and knowledge needed to be effective educators in Atlanta Public Schools.

    Program Design

To ensure a successful start for educators, each induction teacher will receive a dedicated mentor, either from within their school or the district.

Mentors will help induction teachers with:

    • Navigating the Role:

      • Mentors assist teachers in acclimating to their roles, including understanding school procedures, curriculum, and classroom management.
    • Goal Setting and Professional Growth:

      • Support teachers in setting and achieving individual professional goals.
      • Provide constructive feedback and resources to help improve teaching practices.
      • Collaborate to provide meaningful Professional Learning opportunities via Induction Forums.
    • Continuous Improvement:

      • Mentors work with teachers to reflect on their practice, identify areas for growth, and implement strategies for ongoing development.
    • Collaborative Environment:

      • Foster a supportive relationship that encourages open communication, collaboration, and mutual respect.
