Dear South Atlanta HS Parents and Caregivers,

The Georgia Department of Education today released the official graduation rates for the state and every public school, including South Atlanta. If there is a single benchmark measurement of our progress as educators each year, it is this one. This is how our Class of 2019 performed: an 87.9 percent graduation rate.

That is 3.0 percentage points higher than last year, so we are graduating more of our wonderful students!

Over the past five years, Atlanta Public Schools has focused on strengthening our academic program with an emphasis on rigor. A quality APS diploma today means even more than it did five years ago. We will continue to work our plan to graduate even more students ready for college and career. This effort includes monthly tracking of student progress toward graduation and providing more opportunities for high school students to earn college course credits and even earn associates degrees upon high school graduation.

I encourage you to connect with your student’s counselor as soon as possible to review his or her progress and to ensure he or she is on track. After all, it is core to our mission to graduate EVERY student so they are ready for college and career!

Also, please do not hesitate to reach out if you should have any questions about our school’s graduation rate.

Much regards,

Patricia Ford
