    Welcome to the Spanish Department at Booker T. Washington High School! Our mission is to foster a deep appreciation for the Spanish language and its rich cultural heritage. As one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, Spanish opens doors to diverse communities and provides invaluable opportunities in both personal and professional spheres.
     
    Courses Offered 
    Our Spanish curriculum is designed to cater to students of all proficiency levels, from beginners to advanced learners. We offer a variety of courses that include:
     
    Spanish I & II Foundational courses focusing on basic vocabulary, grammar, and conversational skills.
    Spanish III & IV: Intermediate courses that enhance language skills through literature, culture, and real-world applications.
    AP Spanish Language & Culture A college-level course that develops advanced proficiency and prepares students for the AP exam.
    Spanish for Heritage Speakers: Designed for students who have a familial or cultural background in Spanish, focusing on enhancing their literacy and communication skills.
     
    In addition to coursework, we also encourage students to participate in extracurricular activities such as the Spanish Club and cultural events. These activities provide a platform for students to immerse themselves in the language and explore Spanish-speaking cultures.
    Spanish Club is Sponsored by Ms. Paulino department chair on Mondays 3:45-4:45 pm. 
     
    STAMP Exam Information
     
    The STAMP (Standards-Based Measurement of Proficiency) exam is an exciting opportunity for students to demonstrate their Spanish language skills. This assessment measures proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, providing a comprehensive evaluation of a student’s abilities.
     
     Benefits of Taking the STAMP Exam:
    Earn High School Credits: Students can receive credit for their language proficiency, helping them meet graduation requirements.
    Enhance College Applications:  A strong performance on the STAMP exam can bolster college applications, showcasing language skills and dedication.
    Benchmark Proficiency:  The exam provides a clear benchmark of language skills, helping students identify areas for improvement.
     
    Testing Details
     
    Eligibility: All students enrolled in Spanish courses are encouraged to take the STAMP exam.
    Registration: Students can register for the exam through the Spanish department. Please check our website for registration deadlines and details.
    Testing Schedule: The STAMP exam will be administered at the end of the spring semester. Make sure to mark your calendars!
