Ms. Chanel Cobey-Williams is a veteran science teacher who began her teaching career at Booker T. Washington High School in 2009. She has served in many capacities at the school and district level, from being a Science teacher, Department Chair, Mentor Teacher Leader, District Science Advisory Board, a Model Teacher Leader for Georgia State, a Learning Cadre Teacher Leader, the 2013 Teacher of the Year, and now as the STEM Instructional Coach. Ms. Cobey has also participated and presented in several national conferences, such as National Science Teaching Association (NSTA), Great Minds in STEM (GMiS), as well as the Innovative Schools Summit, just to name a few.
Before starting her teaching career, she was a STEM researcher at several renowned institutions and companies, such as Emory University, Morehouse School of Medicine, Georgia Tech, and Georgia Power. She is excited to lead alongside the dynamic educators at Washington High School as we strive for another STEM certification. Booker T. Washington received STEM certification via Cognia initially in 2021. The school wide certification was the first of its kind for a traditional Atlanta Public School high school. The certification team gave the school credit on school culture, community partnerships, student inclusion and equity.
Ms. Cobey-Williams looks forward to leading the team on continuous improvement as a lifelong learner. One part of her educational philosophy is to instill a love for learning and curiosity in STEM subjects that goes beyond the classroom and to encourage students to stay engaged in STEM fields throughout their lives.
