Parent, Family, and Community Volunteers
Thank you for expressing interest in volunteering at Virginia-Highland Elementary! There are two levels for parent, family, and community volunteers at VHE - Level 2 and Level 3.
- Level 2 volunteers are authorized to help out in the classroom, with school-wide activities or on field trips in which a VHE staff member will be present at all times. Level 2 volunteers are not allowed to be left alone with students.
- Level 3 volunteers have a background check and therefore are authorized to help out with activities in which a VHE staff member may or may not be present at all times. Level 3 volunteers are allowed to be left alone with students. Level 3 volunteer background checks must be renewed every 2 years.
We encourage all parents who are interested in volunteering to go ahead and get Level 3 clearance, as this is the highest level of clearance and authorizes you to be in a classroom or on a field trip with students in situations where the teacher may not be present. However, Level 3 clearance does require a background check and can be a longer process. Please see below for the processes for each level.
Level 2
For Level 2 Volunteer clearance with VHE/APS, all you need to do is complete the form linked here and submit a copy of valid state issued ID or passport along with the form to the APS Office of Safety & Security. Unfortunately, they don’t take the documents via email – the form has to be hand delivered to the APS Office of Safety & Security. It is located inside of the parking garage at the CLL/district office: 155 Garnett Street, S.W. Atlanta, GA 30303. No fingerprinting or background check will be needed.
Level 3
In order to become a Level 3 Volunteer clearance with VHE/APS, please take a look at the letter embedded/linked below and follow the steps outlined, as this is a more involved process than Level 2.
If you have any questions, contact VHE front office staff at 404-802-7200.
