Frederick W. Benteen is a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) and pursuing authorization as an IB World School.
IB World Schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to improve the teaching and learning of a diverse and inclusive community of students by delivering challenging, high quality programmes of international education that share a powerful vision.
The IB PYP prepares students to become active, caring, lifelong learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and others and have the capacity to participate in the world around them. PYP focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both within and beyond the classroom. Our teachers are in the beginning stages of developing IB PYP units of study known as "Planners". Each of these planners are developed around a Central Idea or Key Concept. At the elementary level, the IB PYP also spends a lot of time and energy to help our students become Risk Takers. We also encourage them to demonstrate empathy, integrity, confidence, curiosity, thoughtfulness, knowledge and tolerance. B3 anticipates becoming a fully authorized International Baccalaureate PYP school by 2020.
