Mrs. Wilma Brightharp

Greetings,

I am Mrs. Wilma Brightharp the media specialist assigned to the Benteen Elementary School Media Center.  This is my tenth year at Benteen.  Prior to this assignment, I was the media specialist at Capitol View Elementary School until it closed at the end of the 2011-2012 school year.  Working as a librarian/media specialist was my dream job as a child.  I have a passion for reading, finding out new things, working with technology, and making things.

Reading has always been on the top of my list of hobbies.  I have a long list of children's books that I really enjoyed reading, but let me just share a few and see if they, too, are on your list of favorites:

The Little Engine That Could, by Watty Piper
Good Night Moon, by Margaret Wise Brown
A Snowy Day, by Ezra Jack Keats
Honey, I Love, by Eloise Greenfield
The Cat in the Hat, by Dr. Seuss
The Tale of Peter Rabbit, by Beatrice Potter
Tale of a Fourth Grade Nothing, by Judy Blume
Ramona Quimby, Age 8, by Beverly Cleary
Bud, Not Buddy, by Christopher Paul Curtis
Where the Sidewalk Ends, by Shel Silverstein
The Junie B. Jones series, by Barbara Parks
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, by J.K. Rowlings
Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, by Mildred Taylor

This year I am challenging the Benteen students to read for 20 minutes or more each night.  I am working with teachers, and the administration to encourage our students to increase their Lexile Measures by the end of this school year.  I am also challenging myself to read for at least one hour each day.  Check in periodically to see what I am reading.
