I am Mrs. Wilma Brightharp the media specialist assigned to the Benteen Elementary School Media Center. This is my fifth year at Benteen. Prior this assignment, I was the media specialist at Capitol View Elementary School until it closed at the end of the 2011-2012 school year. Working as a librarian/media specialist was my dream job as a child. I have a passion for reading, finding out new things, working with technology, and making things.Reading has always been on the top of my list of hobbies. I have a long list of children's books that I really enjoyed reading, but let me just share a few and see if they, too, are on your list of favorites:The Little Engine That Could, by Watty PiperGood Night Moon, by Margaret Wise BrownA Snowy Day, by Ezra Jack KeatsHoney, I Love, by Eloise GreenfieldThe Cat in the Hat, by Dr. SeussThe Tale of Peter Rabbit, by Beatrice PotterTale of a Fourth Grade Nothing, by Judy BlumeRamona Quimby, Age 8, by Beverly ClearyBud, Not Buddy, by Christopher Paul CurtisWhere the Sidewalk Ends, by Shel SilversteinThe Junie B. Jones series, by Barbara ParksHarry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, by J.K. RowlingsRoll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, by Mildred TaylorThis year I am challenging the students at Benteen to read more than the required 25 books for the school year. I am working with teachers, and the administration to encourage our students to increase their Lexile Measures by the end of this school year. I am also challenging myself to read as many books as I can before the school year ends. Check in periodically to see what I am reading.
