• Welcome to this place in history we call progress- BOOKER T. WASHINGTON HIGH SCHOOL! Since opening its doors in 1924, as the first and largest high school for African Americans southeast of the Mississippi, Booker T. Washington High School has maintained a tradition of excellence. The Gifted & Talented Program will continue the tradition of excellence during the 2024-25 school year. Our goal is to provide your child with rigorous, faster-paced curriculum and instruction in a group of their intellectual peers, delivered by teachers with gifted-education training, to ensure continuous progress in learning. In the classroom, we achieve this goal by offering Honors and AP courses. Gifted teachers of these courses know how to

    · Compact and differentiate required standards

    · Form flexible learning groups

    · Integrate basic skills and higher order thinking skills

    · Create and use learning extensions

    · Use appropriate assessments and grading practices

     

    Gifted & Talented students are strongly encouraged to participate in Booker T. Washington High School’s Early College Program. The Early College Initiative provides students the opportunity to receive a high school diploma and an associate degree or up to two years of transferable college credit, by taking a mixture of high school and college classes.

    The gifted teachers understand that all students deserve consistent opportunities to learn new material. Booker T. Washington High School offers opportunities for your child to engage in intellectually stimulating endeavors that go beyond the classroom. Gifted & Talented students are strongly encouraged to participate in school sponsored extra-curricular activities such as Academic Decathlon, Governor’s Honors Program, HOSA, FBLA, Robotics, Debate Team, Innovative/Science and Engineering Fair, Art Club and Chess Club.

    It is our hope that your child will be both intellectually challenged and socially comfortable.
