Good Day Washington Family!
What a privilege and an honor to be named the new principal of Booker T. Washington High School. To know that I’ve been given the charge of such a historic institution is a reality that I doubt I’ll ever truly relax in. I understand the significance and value of our school for the students, the faculty and staff, the alumni, the community and the nation. It is a responsibility that I can assure you has not been received lightly. I imagine you have quite a few questions for me and in due time, I’m sure through formal opportunities and casual exchanges, you’ll get to learn a little more about where my passions lie.
I think it’s important that you know that I have this burning belief in the unlimited possibilities that come with a solid education. I’ve had to stand alone in my own thoughts and fears as I navigated waters my family had never experienced. I’ve had seats at all kinds of tables and been able to shape both my thoughts and my destiny with the simple yet monumental gift of an education. It’s my hope to pass that gift on to as many students as I can in my lifetime. My philosophy of education is simple…All Student DESERVE to learn! Knowing this truth informs my approach, sustains my passions, keeps me humble enough to remain a student and enlightened enough to be a teacher. I believe in genuine and sustainable academic success for all of our students and most importantly, I believe in the potential of each student despite their beginning (because someone believed in mine).
I am a native of Miami, Florida. I began my educational studies at (the Great) Bethune-Cookman University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. I also possess an M.Ed from Nova Southeastern University; a Specialist credential in Educational Leadership from Georgia College and State University and a Doctorate of Education from Georgia Southern University. During my 16 year tenure in the field of education, I’ve worked at various levels to include, Middle School Social Studies Teacher, High School Social Studies Interrelated Teacher, Director of Student Support, Academy Coordinator and Assistant Principal. All of these roles prepared me for my most coveted role to date: Principal of Booker T. Washington!
I stand ready to meet you, to serve you and to inspire greatness in the students you and I both hold near to our hearts. Here’s to a great year with limitless possibilities!
