• What is Title I?

South Atlanta High School is identified as a Title I school as part of the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA). Title I is a federal grant that was designed to ensure that all children receive a high quality education and reach grade level proficiency. Title I programs must be based on effective means of improving student achievement and include strategies to support parental involvement. All Title I schools must jointly develop with all parents a written parental involvement policy.

    What Is It?

The Parental Involvement Policy describes how South Atlanta High School will provide opportunities to improve parent engagement to support student learning. South Atlanta High School values the contributions and involvement of parents to establish an equal partnership for the common goal of improving student achievement. This policy describes the different ways that South Atlanta High School will support parent engagement and how parents can be involved.

    How Is It Revised?

South Atlanta High School invited all parents to attend our annual School Wide Plan meeting to review and revise this parental involvement policy, as well as the school-wide plan, our school-parent compact and the parental involvement budget. Additionally, parent input and comments regarding this policy are welcomed during the school year. The policy is posted on our school Web site for parents to view and submit feedback throughout the year. All parent feedback received during the year will be used to revise the plan for the next school year. We also distribute an annual survey to ask parents for their suggestions on the plan and the use of funds for parental involvement. Parents can also give feedback during several parent meetings and activities during the school year including our School Governance Team (GO Team), PTSA, and End of the Year Input meetings.

    Who Is It For?

All parents at South Atlanta High School are encouraged and invited to fully participate in the opportunities described in this policy. South Atlanta High School will provide full opportunity for the participation of parents with limited English, parents with disabilities and parents of migratory children.

    Where Is It Available?

At the beginning of the year, the Parental Involvement Policy is given to all parents and students. As a reminder, a copy will be distributed during the respective grade and curriculum nights. Parents can also receive a copy of the Parental Involvement Policy in the Parent

    Parental Involvement

South Atlanta High School believes that parental involvement means the participation of parents in regular two-way and meaningful communication involving student achievement and other school activities, including ensuring:

    • That parents play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning
    • That parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education
    • That parents are full partners in their child’s education and are included, as appropriate, in decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child

Effective parental involvement will not be an occasional event, such as a parent/teacher conference; rather it will be an on-going process. South Atlanta High School is committed to helping our parents by maintaining the Parent Resource Center. Please contact our Parent Liaison designee for additional information:
