• Ms. Murray-Bunsie is the Model Lead Teacher for the English/Language Arts department and the Social Sciences department.

  • I am Marsha Murray-Bunsie and I teach English literature grades 9-12. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and I relocated to Decatur, Georgia in 2007. This is my 17th year of teaching and learning, and I’m a dedicated Merchant of Hope activating students’ voices while they explore their literacy practices. My favorite author is Toni Morrison, and reading her novel The Bluest Eye changed my life as a reader, writer, and educator.  My pastimes are watching basketball, listening to Hip-Hop music, and going to the movie theater. My purpose at Phoenix Academy is affirmed with the words of bell hooks, “To educate as the practice of freedom is a way of teaching that anyone can learn”.
