Military Academies
Attending one of the five U.S. Service Academies brings great advantages: a full ride scholarship to a great college, a chance to travel and to serve your country, and an officer’s ranking. Attendance has significant demands as well. Graduates agree to serve in the military for five years after graduation, and it’s a grueling process, both physically and mentally. The five U.S. Service Academies are:
The U.S. Military Academy (West Point, NY)
The U.S. Naval Academy (Annapolis, MD)
The U.S. Air Force Academy (Colorado Springs, CO)
The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point, NY)
The U.S. Coast Guard Academy (New London, CT)
As with any application to a selective college, grades and test scores (ACT or SAT) are especially important. In addition, you must secure a nomination from your Congressman or Senator or from the Vice President (except for the Coast Guard Academy, which does not require a nomination).
